Amazon's Tablet - Kindle Fire - Now Shipping!

Here's what some critics are saying about it.

I already have an iPad2.  I've used a few other tablet devices for a short period of time (1-2 months), and also have owned other ebook readers from Amazon and Barnes and Nobles. 

Bottom line is if you want to primarily read books, you get an ebook reader.  My pick for that is Kindle, Wi-Fi, 6" E Ink Display - includes Special Offers & Sponsored Screensavers - it can't be beat for the price.  Plus if you really don't want the sponsored screen savers, you can upgrade later.

Otherwise, iPad2 is still the king.  Let's hope Apple drops the pricing a bit in iPad3 or gives some of us the display we really wanted - Retina!

Nook Color is announced - preorder now, ships November 17th

Nook Color is basically a WiFi only Android tablet built for e-reading.  What exciting is that its fairly aggressively priced, has a nice IPS display (hopefully iPad quality), most likely hackable, has a microSD slot, and runs Android.

From the demonstration video, it looks to be a little slower than I'd like in response time.  Also the battery life takes a hit (reported 8 hours).

I would be all over this if they included 3G/4G - but it's doubtful at this point without a monthly fee or more advertising.

For now, personally I'll stick with my Kindle and my iPad till 3G is out.
