I didn't get the flu shot this year, and maybe why you shouldn't either.
I'm no doctor. This is just my opinion, and for that matter my own choice for my specific lifestyle. You should seek the advice of your family doctor in all health related matters.
Flu shots are given out because they are proven to be effective against the strain(s) that they are designed to give you immunity to. But that's a lot like chasing down a moving target. A group of experts get together and try to figure out what the next flu season is going to be like and then make a formula to combat those strains. There is no guarantee that you will be protected from what actually hits during flu season.
Do you know what's also proven to be more effective? Boosting your immune system. Those that live a healthy life style with proper exercise, vitamin C intake, lower stress and good sleep - all of which boost one's immune system.
OK, so besides that, did you know?:
- The flu vaccine contains Mercury - which is highly toxic to the brain, nerve cells, arteries, hypertension, heart disease etc. Overall it's just a very nasty chemical that's linked to Alzheimer's. University of Calgary has a quicktime video on the effects of this chemical on your neurons. Why do they use Mercury? To fend off bacteria.
- Some studies show that if you have 5 consecutive flu shots, you are 10 times more likely to getting Alzheimer's than those that only get a few or none at all.
- There's always a possibility of an allergic reaction. The ONE time I've been to the ER for something was because of an allergic reaction. It's no joke and can be life threatening. Injecting a flu shot can only increase those chances. And for those of you that are conspiracy theorists, or watch a lot of those movies, here's a link for you.
- And for those of you over 65, there had been a study you can find in the Archives of Internal medicine that showed no relationship between flu shots and the decline of flu related death with the elderly.
- This study showed that it's not even helpful for healthy children under 2.
- Check out the CDC flu report and statistics on the web.
So let's see:
1. I don't go to school where a lot of germs are passed and spread around by kids.
2. I typically maintain a healthy diet with plenty of exercise.
3. My 95 year old grandmother is showing signs of dementia.
4. I'm a pretty clean person - I wash my hands often.
5. I'm not a health worker.
6. I have not got the flu in a long while.
7. The times I got a flu shot, I've noticed that my immune system took a dive. I'll chalk this to superstition.
It's a pass on the flu shot for me this season.
Weird Ooma Issue - Can't make phone calls to a particular 310 phone number
I have two Ooma's - one for Los Angeles and one for San Jose. I've tested both calling out to a 310 phone number for flight reservations overseas, and both will not connect. In case you have an Ooma, the number I'm trying to reach is EVA Airways: 310-362-6600.
I get a disconnected tone. Or a busy tone. However, when I call using a mobile phone, it connects just fine.
I've contacted Ooma about this and we will see what they say.
There is no response from Ooma about this issue, and it has still not been resolved. I still cannot make phone calls to that phone number and a subset with that same company.
Ride your bike at night? I just found a great deal on safety lights
My brother and I gave this a trial run the other night. It's about a night and day difference (maybe more) between having them and not having them on your bike when riding at night.
Drivers, pedestrians, cyclists all notice you. They give you a wider berth when passing, and make sure that you give them the go-ahead before they make their turns.
At under $5, you can't go wrong! (This is the first price drop I've seen in the past several months).

AT&T Microcell is driving me nuts!! Its up... no its down. It's up again!
One of the most frequently occurring things is someone calling me, and getting voicemail. (Thank you AT&T! No really, you screen my phone calls for me. I have an iPhone but really wanted an iTouch with GPS capabilities).
It seems to go down at random times during the day, but more so after 10 PM PST. There is simply no warning or schedule to it - it simply goes down and then comes back up when it decides to. Resetting it / rebooting it seems to have no effect what-so-ever on it.
Right now its up! Yay!
I should mention that the Microcell was purchased used - hey! maybe that's why the jerk sold it to me. j/k. I'm sure all craigslist sellers have the best of intentions but end up looking shady anyway.
Lately I've been getting "thank you for activating your MicroCell 3G" emails from AT&T. What's that about? Maybe it's AT&T's fault? (Wait wasn't it always AT&T's fault?)
I'm sooo ready to adopt Verizon and Apples upcoming iPhone baby. Too bad I'm still stuck in contract with AT&T for 2 years...
So that's my experience with the MicroCell so far. I try to be the glass is half full type of guy, so I like to think of it as a bonus when I DO get reception and 50 angry text messages / voicemails at a time...
I am happy to report that generally for the past two months, the MicroCell has been working as intended without issue.
Well, except when too much bandwidth is being used and TimeWarner throttles my internet connection because I'm uploading so many YouTube videos and photos... But that's TimeWarner's fault. May be time to switch to Verizon FIOS.
You have to check out these butt pads! Wow! I wish I had these when I was first snowboarding.
Skateboarding, or any other extreme might fall on my ass sport.
