Panasonic Lumix DMC-CM1 is Photographer's EDC
You know the saying? The best camera is the one you have with you... Well, this may just be the best camera!
This was announced at Photokina recently and it looks to be positioned as the photographer's Every Day Carry camera. A smartphone but with an awesome camera behind it with a truly enormous (by pocket camera standards) 1" sensor!
It does lack an optical zoom, but it is a smartphone after all. Full Android smartphone!
No word on if it will be released in the US, but we can all wish can't we?

Google I/O 2014
That's the entire keynote. What I gathered from half listening, half cleaning house was an Android OS update, UI features that make the interface cool-er, but mostly what intrigued me was the Smart Watch and chrome integration. They announced the next-Gen: LG G watch, and Samsung Gear Live watches coming out next month.
Oh - one more thing that stood out: 1000 women at Google I/O and it got really special mention. Funny how the cheers that came after that sounded predominantly male though.
Amazon's Fire Phone is Intriguing
I saw the demo video for the Amazon Fire Phone a few minutes ago and it looks like they have managed to meld a number of technologies together into an intriguing interface. First, have you tried Seene? It looks like they incorporated features and technology similar to Seene, but with multiple cameras facing you to change perspectives on the interface in real time. Cool stuff for sure.
I'd say what I found the best target audience for this phone would be anybody who has not yet entered the smartphone market for whatever reason. Besides the problems with AT&T coverage (I still yet don't have coverage in some key areas in Los Angeles County), the MayDay feature would be a god-send for those that are more shall we say technologically challenged?
I love that they include a full year of prime for members and non-members alike. That's close to a $99 value in and of its own, but its not all altruistic. Their 'firefly' feature allows users to just point the phone or listen to something to figure out what it is and link you right to the Amazon purchase page. It's going to be way too easy to buy; as if the 1-click shopping, and barcode scanning, 2 day free shipping with prime, etc weren't enough.
The camera's optical image stabilization looks promising. However, I'm going to hold out and see what the iPhone 6 brings to the table before I declare a winner amongst the to-be-released in a few months phones.
I'd get one, but really only if they support Verizon in the future. Or Republic Wireless.
