Dyson sent out an email introducing a newly re-invented everyday thing we use and a link showing us hints at what it could be, except that the video shows little else except people looking surprised.

Turns out its probably an "air multiplier."  Cool.

Turbine makes Dungeons and Dragons Free to Play

Turbine has officially introduced micro-payment system to one of their major MMOs, Dungeons and Dragons Online.  It officially launches on September the 9th, but is now open to all prior (called VIP) players who have an active subscription.

Besides the new FREE and micro-payment for upgrades/new content, they've increased the level cap from 16 to 20 and added new content and raids for subscribers and free players to unlock.

DDO has the most active combat system out of all the MMORPGs, and is definitely worth trying especially now that you can play for free!

Mac OS X Snow Leopard is coming!

I'm a PC.

I don't use Macs, have never owned one and never saw a need.

However, I do use a lot of Apple products, starting with the 1st generation iPod all the way to my iPhone.

According to the statistics or advertising, I should have a natural affinity with Macs right?

Apple OS X Snow Leopard may just be the final update that gets me to get a Mac Notebook.  It will now support Exchange, allow people to enter Chinese characters through the touchpad, and chances are that soon I will need to support even more Macs in the workplace.

Apple should be applauded for the reasonably priced OS, and OS upgrade (only $49 for up to 4 family Macs!).  Compare that with Microsoft Windows 7!

 

Bubbleshare yet another example not to put all your pictures in one basket

I just got an email notice from Bubbleshare that they will no longer be available. For those of you that don't know, Bubbleshare was a photosharing website with a lot of innovative features. Unfortunately they couldn't figure out a way to make money.

Back in 2000 a photo site (I believe was called photopoint) where I uploaded all my photos to also went bankrupt. Without warning all photos were no longer accessible, and the site was shut down. My photos were gone in cyberspace forever.

Don't let that happen to you. Make backups, upload to several photo sites, save on DVD, and store your most important photos/files on archival media, print them out and store them somewhere safe!

Bubbleshare had the decency to send out this email to warn all users to download all their photos:

"Dear Bubbleshare member –


As of November 15, 2009, Bubbleshare.com will no longer be available and all links to all albums and photos will cease to function (including existing links within emails, blogs, etc). To access your photos in the future you will need to download your photos prior to November 15, 2009.

To save your images to your desktop, simply click the "Download Album" link next to your albums and double click on original photos. Your photos will then be saved to your desktop.

Again, all photos and albums must be removed prior to November 15, 2009. Effective immediately, you will no longer be able to upload any new photos or albums.

We apologize for the inconvenience. It was our pleasure to assist you with your photo sharing needs.

This is old news for some of you international travelers but I just found out that Boingo is only $9.95 per month for WiFi access practically everywhere there is a McDonalds and Starbucks (almost literally every city that I can imagine going to).

That is a great deal if you are on the computer all the time (like me).

where godaddy went wrong

I have been a godaddy customer for years.  My company(s) use godaddy both for hosting and domain name registration in the past.  They are well known, provide good prices, and decent service - most of the time.

This past month whilst traveling abroad in through Asia, I submitted a simple request to remove an auto-renewing service called smart space (which is not worth it IMO).  I had it added in as a promotion when I registered this domain (mikemuonline.com).

Within minutes of using smart space, I decided it was going to be a waste of money and went with squarespace instead.  I immediately switched the site over.

Fast forward a month, and I find out that it was on autorenewal and I could not figure out how to remove it / cancel it.  I submit a request to customer service to please have them REMOVE the service immediately and that it was inconvenient for me to do so while traveling abroad.

They did not remove it.  They replied telling me how, which didn't help at all because 1. I had very limited internet access.  2. I still couldn't find it.

I replied and asked them again to please just remove it for me.

Today I got another bill for the service.  GRRR!!

Now that I have internet service, I removed the automatic renewal of the horrible smartspace.  At the end it asked me to fill out a survey - gladly!  Well the script failed and of course no survey could be submitted.

While I'm just out $10 because all of this is non-refundable (written in red on the side), they have lost a lot more business from myself and my colleagues.  I will now at most just register domain names with them and not recommend anything else.

 

Its not just the drunk, and inexperienced drivers...

If you are over the age of 60, forgetful, don't know how to get somewhere, drive half the speed limit, and are of Asian descent, please, please don't drive. This is particularly true if you are driving in California, but equally important in Asia.  

Let someone else drive, and if you know this is about to happen, offer to drive.
