Taking out Seagate Barrucuda from Backup Plus Drive

I needed to replace my 2TB drives in my Drobo with higher capacities.  The cheapest name brand drives this holiday season all happened to be external hard drives.  Seems internal drives command a 25% or more premium.  Earlier during Cyber Monday week, I posted a few deals on external hard drives from Seagate which all happen to be Seagate Backup Plus drives.

The hard drives inside are actually Seagate Barracuda drives are sufficient for my light duty Drobo 5N NAS which I setup with dual drive redundancy.

Cyber Monday Sales - What I'm looking at

First off there's the Amazon Lightning deals all day long here.  But besides that, there is the Kindle Fire HDX - which is a fantastic tablet for beginners.  Today its $50 off any model.

Amazon's sister company Woot has a Woot off going on right now as well.  New deals every few minutes as well - but honestly the deals don't look any better than usual woot-offs.

I admit to only finding out about this morning; and only because I have been browsing Amazon's Black Friday deals.  It looks really impressive in the demonstration and videos.

However, I see a few problems with it for me.

I would tend to want to use this a lot in meetings, and on the go as my Every Day Carry.

Best Buy Milpitas = Shop Elsewhere

The problem is customer service.  They put themselves above customers - to them, its ingrained that the customer is always wrong.  What they don't understand is, that I get much better service from other Best Buys, why would I bother going back?  Me, who has been a Silver Rewards Plus Elite (whatever its called) member since the inception of the program.  

In all, I'd say I've purchased on average 4 laptops, 6 cameras, 2 projectors, and recommended countless other items and business to Best Buy annually.  If they counted the program by how much I spend with them, I'd have several years of premiere membership with them based on what I've purchased this year alone.  

If its in stock at Best Buy, I usually try to get it there.  Best Buy (and Fry's Electronics), are one of the few remaining brick and mortar shops that I'd like to see still in business.

JBL Bluetooth Speaker Lightshow Combo Spotted

It's going to retail for $199 and is a refreshing addition to the really crowded portable bluetooth speaker market now.  It sounds decent, but the real unique thing about it is the lightshow, which is customizable and programmable (to some degree).

Samsung's $299 Smart Watch

Samsung Galaxy Gear Smartwatch comes in 6 colors, all priced at the same launch price of $299.99.  It only works with the Samsung Galaxy Note 3, and the Samsung Galaxy S4 right now, but it's supposedly going to be supported by other Samsung phones (such as the Samsung Galaxy Note 2) in the coming weeks.

GoPro Hero 3+ Adventures

I'm always impressed by the quality of GoPro videos when put in the hands of people who go out on adventures.  Their latest release with the new GoPro HERO3+: Black Edition takes the best POV camera in its segment and improves on it some more.  Even sharper than before, and the colors look richer too.  Sound quality has been improved, and the waterproof housing size reduced.  All for the same price as the original Black ediiton.

The truth is, I have the 3 black edition, and its been very buggy for me.  The times I try to use it, it just freezes up.  Someone mentioned it could have something to do with the memory cards I'm using (Sandisk, Samsung) - but because of those failures I've not been able to get any fun footage from my Black edition.

Gravity - Watch in 3D IMAX, but be warned

Its such a close up, virtual experience in a real 3D IMAX theatre that you feel like you're tumbling through space.  Your pulse will rise, you'll probably scream o-sh*t as debris flies right at you in space... I ended up a bit nauseous with all the spinning.

Watch the trailer and you'll see what I mean.  Make sure its not 2D, IMAX, RealD - to get the full experience, go for the IMAX 3D.  It's a $6-8 rough surcharge on top of a normal ticket.
